my first oil portrait.
It is loosely based photoref..my aim will eventually work from live models but as i have little experience using oils i need to build up my confidence with the medium. Im happy with the final result and think it surpasses what i have achieved digitally from previous work.

First time using charcoal, i went for a tight rendered approach. I guess i wanted to push the realism
for practice rendering and seeing form. Blending with a cotten stump. Done over a period of 3 sessions.

was playing around with a different approach last weekend. Watercolor and pastel.

2 gouche portraits from photoref. First time using goache.
The chinaman was my 2nd attempt and is a bit more loose (which i prefer)
with being a bit more confident with the tools. It was also alot
more difficult to paint with there beiing no direct light source.
It was harder to see the average dark and lights but came togther ok
at the end. Will move onto color goache next.
About 4 hours each. (raw umber and ultramarine + white)

With the new narnia film released i thought i might mention that im looking forward to seeing the dragon on the big screen. Eustace is the biggest asset ive worked on since working in film and although im not keen on the overall design i think the team at mpc have done a great job in bringing him to life and we should all feel proud of the work.

Saw the movie 2001 on blu ray this week. Its hard to believe that this movie was made in 1968..shot by shot is a piece of art and you can see how it has inspired so many sci fi films since. Also featured music that was used in aliens. A timeless classic. The screenshots could be from a movie made today.

Started this last week...
I set up the armature using materials bought at the tiranti sculpting shop and used the same technique that was used in sculpting class. Although i was more careful when setting up the size, shape and symetry of the wire. I made the armature quite big as i do not have too much chavant clay
and do not want too much built up.
